Artists Jaleh Farshi, Sue Johnson & Katie Rodgers ground their paintings in the profound sense of place they experience when exploring the natural world, expressing a joyous connection to the land that is both personal & universal.

Jaleh Farshi is an Iranian Canadian visual artist & art educator based in Vancouver. Her paintings grow from an intimate, emotional relationship with nature. Farshi works in acrylics employing soft, flowing brushstrokes & layered washes that allow colour to breathe, drift, & settle—like a fond memory. Her landscapes are a combination of direct reference & reminiscence of some of her favourite places in Iran, creating a unique sense of place not quite real but idealized. Through each piece, Farshi aims to offer a quiet pause—an atmosphere of stillness & tenderness that invites contemplation & inward listening.

Sue Johnson is a North Vancouver based painter. Her art focuses on local trails & parks, capturing dramatic light throughout the changing seasons. Working in acrylic, Johnson's bold colours, high contrast values & confidant brushwork imbue her pieces with a vitality. Whether it's the quiet calm of a forest walk, the gentle movement of a creek, or time spent by the sea, she values the restorative power of nature. Through her paintings of familiar walking trails, Johnson aims to create a window into these places—inviting viewers to feel a connection to the land while experiencing its serenity & quiet strength.

Katie Rodgers is a painter & online gallerist based in North Vancouver. Her expressive landscape & paintings explore the emotional resonance of place. Her depictions of the vast BC wilderness, echos the journey of discovering not only new places but our grounding in something bigger. Working with acrylics, Rodgers' pieces are characterized by bold, exaggerated colour palettes & vigorous, textured brushwork. These elements come together to form imaginative interpretations of familiar environments - inviting viewers to connect not just with a scene, but with the feeling it evokes.

Artists JACLOT & Mitchell Seeyu take traditional aesthetics, motifs & techniques from their backgrounds into new & personal directions & experiments.

JACLOT is a Japanese artist based in Vancouver. His work bridges traditional Japanese visual sensibilities with contemporary life, combining classical motifs, folklore, & modern cultural influences. The Experiment Series explores abstraction through watercolour, drawing inspiration from the aesthetics of Japanese art without directly using traditional painting techniques. These works emphasize balance, rhythm, & the use of space, blending geometric structures with intuitive, fluid forms. JACLOT's paintings are created through an open-ended process of experimentation rather than a predetermined result. By allowing accidents, layering, & restraint to coexist, the series reflects a dialogue between control & intuition. This approach mirrors how each of us experiences & interprets the world in our own way.

Mitchell Seeyu is a Hong Kong born, Vancouver based artist who explores natural beauty & landscapes as metaphors for memory, history, & the passage of time. Having studied traditional Chinese ink painting since she was a teenager, Seeyu has embraced the mogu (boneless) technique, a freehand approach that eschews structured contour lines in favour of subtle tonal gradations. Since moving to Canada, she has incorporated local wildlife, flora & landscapes into her practice, applying traditional brushwork & use of negative space to capture the the spirit of the world around her. Reflecting on tradition through a contemporary lens, Seeyu forges new traditions & aesthetic transitions in an ongoing dialogue between past & present.
