Volunteer
Volunteers are an integral part of the success of the West Vancouver Community Arts Council. They greatly increase the capacity and effectiveness of the organization and all of our programs, projects, exhibitions and events. Volunteering has a meaningful, positive impact on our community by enriching the overall quality of life where we live, work and play.
We are always looking for interested and enthusiastic individuals who love their community and the arts. There are many opportunities available to choose from including assisting with special events or art receptions, art exhibition installations, fundraising, and gallery attendant.
The following volunteer positions are available:
VOLUNTEER HOST
As a Gallery Attendant you are the smiling face of the WVCAC that greets the public visiting the Silk Purse! A Gallery Attendant is present during the open hours of the Gallery to greet gallery patrons, keep track of levels of attendance, process sales, and monitor the gallery. Gallery Attendants may also be occasionally asked to assist with office duties, i.e. mailouts, etc. No previous experience necessary, just a love for art and community.
When: Open hours, Tuesday-Friday, 12-5pm & Saturday-Sunday, 12-4pm, Winter 12-4pm
Where: Silk Purse Art Centre
EVENTS ASSISTANT
The WVCAC programs many public events throughout the year, including art exhibition receptions, musical performances, and special events. When the public visits the Silk Purse you are the smiling face that welcomes them to the event! An events assistant greets gallery patrons, keeps track of levels of attendance, processes sales, and monitors the gallery. Find out more about the events below!
Art Exhibition Receptions
Every art exhibition has an opening reception held on the first Tuesday evening the exhibition is open to the public. Volunteers help set up a spread for art patrons to enjoy and welcome the public at the front desk.
When: Weekdays, 5:00 – 8:30pm
Where: Silk Purse Arts Centre
Community Engagement Programs
The WVCAC is happy to program various community engagement programs where volunteers can lend a hand. This position may involve helping set up tables and/or chairs as well as interact with the public. Special events can vary (such as the First Thursdays Art Walk in the summer, North Shore Storytelling Cric? Crac! the first Sunday of the month, Creative Voices Speaker Series in the fall, Culture Days during the last week of September, and Harmony Arts Festival during the first week of August). Volunteers will be contacted for specific events.
