Design a work of public art!

This fall the WVCAC is presenting the community the opportunity to participate in the creation of a collaborative temporary public art piece: a paint-by-numbers mural that will spark a cultural conversation on climate change! But we need help designing it. Youth ages 8-11 are invited to join a workshop where they will work together to interpret the theme & translate it into the mural's design.

Under the guidance of artist/instructors from mural collective Paintillio, participants will engage with the topic of climate change, & through discussion & discovery create a collage using recycled materials & drawing techniques. The collage will be photographed & transformed into a giant paint-by-numbers mural to be painted by the community throughout September. Participants will be invited to be the first to add paint to the mural.

Participants will gain valuable experience in teamwork, creative collaboration, collage making, design, repurposing & recylcing materials for art, visual communication, creative problem solving, all while exploring  climate change's effects on our local environment.

Each participant will be asked to bring a flat, recycled item from home, to paint on (clothing, plastic bag, cardboard, whatever they can find - be creative!). All other art supplies will be provided.

The WVCAC has put into place
Health & Safety Protocols following recommendations & guidelines from health authorities including: a workshop space with social distancing in place, all materials will be cleaned before & after use, hand sanitizer stations, a washroom dedicated to staff & workshop participants. Workshop will be outdoors depending on weather conditions.

Workshop space is limited. To register click the "Register " button to the left. If registering multiple participants choose the "Add Guest" option.
