Open Book Art Collective seeks to create a visual/literary dialogue that is inspired by story. The artists choose a work of literature, read & discuss it a book club format, then create art addressing the work from their varied perspectives & artistic styles.

'For the Time Being' features artwork inspired by the book by Annie Dillard. The artists have explored the themes from the source - the universal questions of human existence & suffering, the passage of time, geological histories & the cyclical nature of birth & death - & transformed them into immersive & engaging artworks in a variety of mediums such as painting, encaustic, drawing, installation, sculpture, & photography.

Artists on display Andrea Armstrong,  Cara Bain, Katrina Grabner, Jenny Hawkinson, Bre McDaniel, Jennifer Sarkar, Mahla Shapiro FinklemanKristin Voth Davies & Yiya Yin.

The artists of Open Book Art Collective are brought together by their passion for literature, sharing ideas, making art & a desire to build a creative community. Through these endeavours the collective hopes viewers will begin to see the connections between art forms, & how meaning can be conveyed, understood & felt more deeply when explored through creative dialogue.

Watch the virtual opening for a lively & inspiring discussion with the artists as they share insights into their artistic practices & inspirations, & take a tour of the exhibition.
