The West Vancouver Community Arts Council invites visual artists to be a part of Diving In: The Art of Cleaning Lakes and OceansIf you live and work in West Vancouver or North Vancouver, are interested in raising awareness about the health of our waterways, & are creative, you might be the artist we are looking for.

Diving In: The Art of Cleaning Lakes and Oceans is an environmental art campaign that aims to raise awareness of the waste in our lakes & oceans by transforming trash into beautiful art. The selected artist will be tasked with creating an eye-catching work of art (preferably one that can be hung on a wall)using waste diverted from the bottoms of lakes & ocean shorelines as collected by volunteers & divers from Divers for Cleaner Lakes and Oceans. The artwork will join other pieces created by artists in other communities, in a touring exhibition in 2022.

There are exciting opportunities for collaboration with local schools including teaching workshops on creating art from used & unusual materials.

The participating artist will be paid an honorarium of $500 for the artwork.
An additional fee will be negotiated for workshops/collaborations with local schools that will take place between January & March 2022.

Project Timeline

  • Clean ups in lakes & along shorelines to happen from June 2021 through till October 2021
  • Artists to collect materials from designated locations & have November 2021 till mid-March 2022 to create art
  • The created pieces will then go on tour throughout the participating areas from April 2022 till November 2022.
