Create your own cedar bark woven basket with Coast Salish weaver and fibre artist Jessica Silvey.

In this fun and informative workshop you'll not only develop skills for weaving a small basket using ethically harvested cedar, but also learn about the harvesting and preparation process while discovering the importance and significance weaving with bark has for many Indigenous peoples.

Workshop will be in person. Workshop participants will be required to wear a mask & produce proof of vaccination.

    Artist Bio

Jessica Silvey is a Coast Salish Weaver & Fibre Artist. She is a self taught weaver of Coast Salish and Portuguese descent, of the Silvey Family of Egmont, BC. She is the owner of Red Cedar Woman - an Indigenous-owned and operated company, that focuses on the creation of unique, authentic Indigenous items.

Many of Jessica's childhood hours were spent with her paternal Grandmother in the forest. "It is my favorite place to be, surrounded by cedar trees and silence."

Jessica has learned traditional techniques from research as well as trial and error. She harvests and prepares her own materials. When she is ready to weave, the most time consuming work has been completed. Weaving is her passion and therapy for her soul.
