Experience 3 artists' symbolic image making & explorations in media & design that invite us to ponder our personal & creative journeys through life.
Photographer Francine Drouin is concerned with creating rather than documenting, fusing reality with the imagined. Vignettes of larger scenes characterized by sparseness, simplicity & minimal colour leaves more of an interpretation of a place, person or event. Using light, exposures, motion & digital tools allows Drouin to create painterly, emotive images that evoke a fleeting glimpse or loosely remembered moment in time that we are left to fill in the blanks.
Photo-based abstract artist Kirsty Paterson aims to create simple, emotional stories through sometimes complex imagery. Inspired by reflections & nature, Paterson creates layered & distorted images that reshape her subjects from a pond or rose into explorations of line, form, colour. Distilled into elements of design, these images are transformed into pure expressions of Patterson's wonder of the world.
Intuitive painter Holly Winters pulls imagery from her unconscious mind through automatic drawing. Winters draws continuous lines without intent, allowing for spontaneous imagery to develop. Along her artistic practice, reoccurring forms & motifs have emerged - embryo & wing like shapes that Winters feel represent the crossroads of the conscious & unconscious worlds. These drawings form the basis of colourful acrylic paintings that invite us to explore the overlapping shapes & forms to ponder how did they emerge & what journey they may take.
