'Elder Cedar'

Rick Herdman

'Panoramic Beauty'

Colette Tan

Dramatic vistas, real & imagined, past & present. Featuring detailed woodcut prints by Rick Herdman & etherial semi-abstract paintings by Collette Tan.

Rick Herdman is a print maker & sculptor based in Burnaby & Gabriola Island, whose art is inspired by the nature around him. This series of panoramic woodcut prints are based on his explorations through BC as well as referencing the photographs of his Great-Uncle, William Moore (1887-1963). Herdman's  explorations of printmaking as an art form often blends the technical with metaphorical. Within each print run, the use of woodblock plates locates the images to a common physical ancestor.  Yet, he consciously encourage variations into his prints so that they become unique works. Within this collection of prints are unique experiences linked to Herdman's great uncle’s photographs: walking in these exact same steps years later. We see individual impressions of a landscape, produced as replications on paper by artists separated by time.

Colette Tan is an ethereal abstract artist based in Vancouver. Tan seeks to paint from the depths of her being, aiming to restore the soul through the beauty of art. Tan has an unrestricted & organic approach in her painting style, as she believes her artwork should be the unique expression of every stage of her life, thereby telling a story. Each of her artworks expresses itself spontaneously through multiple layers of contrasting fine & broad brushstrokes, of thick & fluid paint. Colette often muses on nature during her frequent road trips & hikes throughout in British Columbia & Alberta. This inspiration from the natural world manifests in etherial panoramic paintings of mountains, bodies of water & landscapes. Tan aims to expose the beauty that can provide hope & transformation.
