Striking landscapes in watercolour - sometimes peaceful, sometimes haunting, sometimes dramatic - each vista exposes the artist's inner landscape.
Enda Bardell captures breathtaking seascapes of the Pacific Rim inspired by her visits to Vancouver Island. The rugged turbulence of these churning waters provides Bardell with an awe-inspiring inner calm that she translates into her paintings through dramatic lighting & energetic sprays of crashing waves. Her compositions often lack man-made objects & living creatures, heightening the vastness of the scenes, placing the viewer alone on these contemplative shore.
Jenny Liu's serene mountain scenes are inspired by the landscapes of Western Canada & the Pacific Northwest. Combining memory & imagination, Liu's artwork envision mountains, forests & topographical shapes that transcend temporal & spatial boundaries creating a misty dream-like vision. Guided by intuition & drawing from Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism & traditional Chinese ink painting, Liu welcomes viewers into these tranquil & calming spaces.
Mong Yen's art portrays rural landscapes, evoking quietness & reflection. The sparse scenes of abandoned farm houses or gentle rivers create a serene, sometimes empty ambiance, heightened by his use of muted brown tones that carry a nostalgic & melancholic mood. Yen's work, while detailed, focuses thematically on simplicity, reminding us of the beauty in everyday moments & our connection to nature.
