Under the canopy of leaves & branches in our local forests & groves, we can find a myriad of experiences & sensations - comfort, awe, connection. Three artists present us with dramatic & evocative interpretations of forest scenes, offering glimpses of hidden worlds of beauty & moments of reflection.
North Vancouver artist, Danyne Johnston seeks to paint the light & energy of our beautiful Westcoast landscapes. In this exhibition she turns her attention to local forests' hiking & biking trails. Using acrylic paint either in studio or plein air, Johnston explores the strong contrasts between bright sunshine & rich shadows while breathing a sense of peacefulness into the painting.
Vancouver artist Christina Peressini captures impressions of West Coast forests & the land beneath them through cut layered paper - exploring the intersection between two & three dimensions, using light & shadow to bring it to life. At times minimalist & abstract, & at others geographically detailed, Peressini's compositions give viewers an opportunity to consider their own relationship to this part of the world
Parksville artist Catherine Trembath is interested in the play of light, how it illuminates subjects & brings them to life. Her style is a cross of representational & abstract, using line, colour, shape & tone to capture the rhythm of the forest. Inspired by the West Vancouver groves she grew up playing in, Trembath believes it is our task to protect the trees that have sustained us, striving to tell their stories & illuminate their songs.
