“How did it get so late so soon. It’s night before it’s afternoon. December before it’s June. My goodness, how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?” Dr. Suess
Looking at time as a construct of both measurement & perception, the BOLDERartists collective present dynamic artwork open to interpretation. Using painting, mixed media & photography, the artists present work that is both cognizant & yet insightful into the many ways humanity has simultaneously measured time & dealt with the passing of time on a personal level.
BOLDERartists is a collective of five artists from very diverse backgrounds, each on a lifelong individual artistic journey who found their way to Vancouver & to working with each other.
Axel Breutigam grew up in Germany & translates the patterns & shapes he sees in the world into striking black & white photography.
Melenie Fleischer, originally from New York, brilliantly channels hyper-energy & chaos into her acrylic paintings.
Annette Nieukerk, raised on the Saskatchewan prairies, subtlety challenges the misunderstandings & discrimination of ageism in her mixed media paintings.
Joyce Ozier, a Boston native, creates beautiful painted abstractions by paring things down to their essential elements.
Richard Wilson grew up in the UK & looks for the quintessential colour & mood in everyday surroundings.
Time as perception has them, as older artists, responding intuitively to the passing of their own years & how that has affected their relationship to the world & creative output. As varied as the work is, they are all looking at the concept of time through the lens of their years, deeply conscious of both the passing & the preciousness of what was, what is, & what will come.
