Liddy Love

'Bicycle Day'

Raana Sahraei

'Swing in Mandarin'

In today’s high-pressure world, it’s easy to dismiss play as an indulgence or a remnant of childhood. Yet, research consistently highlights the profound benefits of play, making it a vital tool for well-being, creativity & resilience.

Liddy Love & Raana Sahraei welcome the deeper possibilities in play through art making. These curious & explorative artists create colourful & fantastical worlds populated by characters & features that represent the freedom found when we embrace the entirety of ourselves.

Liddy Love is a Vancouver based painter whose art is a heartfelt journey back to the innocence & wonder of the inner child. After years of suppressing her creative spirit, she rediscovered painting during the solitude of the 2020 lockdown, finding solace in creating for hours on end. This rekindling of her artistic passion taught her to slow down, breathe & regulate her nervous system. Creating allows Love to delve into themes of self-discovery, healing & the deconstruction of limiting beliefs. Working in acrylics, using vibrant colours & whimsical imagery, she integrates elements inspired by psychedelic experiences which have helped in her journey of healing & discovery. Love challenges traditional perspectives on self-love & personal growth. Her paintings serve as love letters to the inner child within us all - especially those who have felt misunderstood, traumatized, or overlooked - & as an invitation to unlearn old patterns, embrace diversity of experience & allow the heart to lead the way.

Raana Sahraei is a West Vancouver graphic artist & illustrator whose works are celebrations of creativity & exploration. Using pens & markers on paper she creates imaginative worlds filled with vibrant characters. Working intuitively, Sahraei lets these worlds emerge from the shapes she sees in the paper's texture & shadows that fall across the surface. Sketching characters individually, she then assembles them on a the page, crafting relationships & environments with & around them. Sahraei's drawings are small yet detailed, enhanced by vivid monochromatic palettes. These tiny bustling illustrations encourage viewers to look closer & discover the hidden stories & connections within each piece. Whether it is a happy worm between a bird beak or cherries singing together in a city of tiny creatures, her artwork invites viewers to dive into the details & revel in the joy of letting your imagination free.
